On the way to find the cashmere sweater
Sitting on the balcony today during an abrupt downpour, I was watching the unceremonious opening of the incomplete aquatic centre next door when it finally dawned on me; a year ago, the site I was looking at now use to be a pile of cleared dirt and now stood a stunning piece of architecture that juxtaposes the strong lines of the area with its sweeping curves. I then realised that so much has happened in the past twelve months and just as importantly, what can happen in twelve months.
As people were getting drenched by the sudden change in the weather, I watched them aimlessly seek shelter under an awning much too small for gathered unveiling. Everyone around me seems to be moving on with the next step of their lives; changing jobs, getting married, buy homes, relocating overseas, getting knocked up, having extended holidays or sabbaticals. Me however, I feel like I am still standing in the rain and regretting not buying the black Burberry umbrella with the quilted leather handle.
The crowd then started to gather in line to proceed into the unfinished building – the opportunity to take a glimpse of a dead architect’s dream outshining the overcast skies. If only I could also do the same with an opportunity to take a glimpse into possible dreams and then make a decision if it is worth the effort.
Until I can make a decision of where I want to go, I guess I can only follow the crowd and pray that they are not headed somewhere dismal like into the waiting group of people downstairs trying to sell gym membership.
No one can be that shallow! Can they?
